Who we are

Friends of Palomar Mountain State Park is the official non-profit cooperating association recognized by the California Department of Parks and Recreation for Palomar's support.
OUR PURPOSE
Friends of Palomar Mountain State Park (FPMSP) is dedicated to:

  • Supporting the park in its mission to enhance the public's experience through educational and interpretive programs and to preserve the park's unique biological, geological, archaeological, recreational, and scenic resources... for the benefit and enjoyment of the public.
  • Keeping the park open... and with full services.

The idea of a non-profit association supporting a park is nothing new. In fact, there are over 80 such cooperating associations supporting California state parks. Aside from raising money to keep the park open, Friends of Palomar Mountain State Park supports the park financially for things like:

  • Tools and materials for trail maintenance and rehabilitation (e.g., bridge repair, signage)
  • Materials and contract labor for facility repair and reconstruction
  • Educational displays and collections
  • Audio-visual equipment and supplies
  • Materials for a Junior Ranger program for children

Friends of Palomar Mountain State Park, Inc. is a non-profit 501(c)(3) charitable corporation. Contributions to FPMSP are tax deductible to the fullest extent of the law.

  • We're the official cooperating association recognized by the California Department of Parks and Recreation for Palomar's support. Though we are independent of the parks department, we are still monitored by the department through a Cooperating Association Liaison and held to certain standards to preserve our special status.
100% of every dollar donated to Friends of Palomar Mountain State Park goes directly and exclusively towards the support of Palomar Mountain State Park.
Board members and officers serve without compensation. Contributions to FPMSP are tax deductible to the fullest extent of the law  under FPMSP's 501(c)(3) status.
